A doll with a soul

A doll with a soul

the doll

If, according to a scientist the acts of quantum physics elementary particles are described precisely by the behavior of the characters from Indian sacred book, then why not the very everyday life to be understood and given meaning by fairy tales?

This helps, because the tales provide:

  1. A happy ending, not a tragical one;
  2. A direction for acting in the middle of a life crisis.

About the scenario, a doll was given a soul, one could find it repeating in many versions and scales over the time...

In a Bogomil legend God was living in 3 vessels, before the creation of the earth. 3 men were going somewhere, but stopped to spend the night in a house. Out of the Chaos the world has been ruled by Uranus (heaven) and Saturn (time); Jupiter (good fortune) is the third ruler and in the same time the only ruler among the 3 of them, who could manage to put order in the creation. There was only sea and one bird (Lucifer) on top of the sea. Since God was the God of all Gods, he ordered the bird to dive deep and to take from the bottom land and flint. (A swan, playing with Leda)

During the night, the first man, a carpenter, woke up with a vision in his mind. He poured his sensations on a piece of wood; he chiseled a beautiful woman. A man, called Pygmalion, in another version, precisely following his vision of perfection, made as well a statue of a woman, but out of ivory. He was pleased with his works and went back to sleep.

God separated the flint in two and Lucifer and he made angels out of the 2 parts, again by following the vision of perfection from God’s and Lucifer’s features. Then the second man woke up and saw the first man’s piece of art. He was rapturous of the wooden woman, of her gentlest expression. Since he was a sewer, he made glistening like silk on the moonlight clothes for the woman. He was pleased with his works and went back to sleep.

me as the vision

There is a legend, that Lucifer has built the visible world, but he couldn’t give life to his creation. The third man, a priest, woke up. In the intricate multiplicity of light and shadows of that night, he saw the delineated vision of a woman. He was also enchanted by her appearance; the sparkling colors and the soft shapes in front of his eyes made him going down in the waterfall inside his mind, but without life outside his imagination.

the song

After all,

the Beauty is in the eyes of the Beholder

– in this case, in the eyes of God and Lucifer, Pygmalion, Zeus… They all saw and experienced only the beauty inside their own visions/minds… and on the outside their minds could materialize and enjoy only this exact vision. He fell on his knees and as a priest, the third man prayed the God to give soul to the cold statue. Pygmalion didn’t want to marry any other woman, but a woman precisely perfectly similar to the statue. So, he prayed Venus to give him a wife with the beauty and the perfection of his work. After that the third man went back to sleep.

In the morning the men found out that the statue indeed lived. She became a young woman as astonishing as the three men imagined she could be. In another version the girl gave a ring to the third man and told him, that his brothers would fight over her, when they see her. She would ask for “self-sewed” clothes, which only the ring could produce. And so, she promised her loyalty with the ring (nowadays the newlywed exchange rings).

the rings

The men saw her on the next morning and they started to argue – to whom she must marry.

The Carpenter, who gave her form;

the Sewer, who gave her glow or

the Priest, who prayed for her to have soul

and life.

With Pygmalion, it is easy – the 3 men are 1 man. With God and Lucifer – it could be the Lovers (the mind already knows the bad news, but the heart is not ready to accept it) or 2 of Wands (the good cop and the bad cop are both working for the police). For the title of respect: “the right husband for the wooden woman of 3 men’s dreams” has been chosen the third man – the priest; the brother with the girl’s ring; the part of God, who gives souls and life.
